Description
This artwork cleverly combines elements of Pop Art and Neoplasticism, creating a visually striking composition rich in symbolism. The artist uses a pixelated approach to depict an iconic face, fragmenting the image into a series of dots that, when viewed from a distance, recompose into a recognizable figure. The vibrant primary colors—red, blue, and yellow—are borrowed from the style of Piet Mondrian, while the sharp contrasts of black and white enhance the visual impact. The juxtaposition of blocks of color and black lines gives the impression of a grid, a motif dear to the De Stijl movement, which sought to reduce art to essential forms. The figurative elements of the face blend seamlessly with this geometric grid, illustrating a fusion of figurative and abstract. Each colored section captures the attention in a unique way, transforming the familiar elements into a visual adventure that encourages the viewer to interact with the work in multiple ways. The dynamism of the colours, combined with the anonymity of the subject, raises questions about identity and perception in the digital age, making this work as contemporary as it is timeless. A perfect illustration of how art transcends the boundaries of time and style to offer a new perspective.
Presentation
Since 2018, Warren Podguszer, known under the pseudonym Wawapod, has immersed himself in the world of Pop Art and Street Art in Paris, developing a unique style that fuses geometry and popular iconography. His work is distinguished by the reuse of emblematic icons through accumulations of dots, paying homage to the history of art and to popular figures he admires.
In addition to its studio work, Wawapod intervenes in public spaces, notably by writing its message "hello love always" on city sidewalks, thus adding a touch of poetry and optimism to the urban environment.
One of the most fascinating aspects of his work lies in the creation of double readings. By superimposing images within the dots, he allows his works to reveal an initial abstract image that becomes figurative with distance. This visual game engages the viewer, pushing them to explore and discover different dimensions of the work.
Self-taught, Wawapod has built his own artistic path, developing a personal and innovative visual language through his painting. His journey is marked by a constant quest for expression and creativity, inviting the public to a rich and interactive visual experience.
