Spontaneous Connections (2020) by Natalia Kolpakova is a darkly comic and cosmically rich silk scarf exploring an otherworldly realm where fantastical beings go about their surreal everyday lives—blissfully unaware of the transformative event looming on their horizon. A blazing red vortex at the centre pulses like an alien stage light, drawing tentacled creatures, crystalline forms, floating instruments, and celestial figures into an intricate orbital dance. The winking verse sets the tone perfectly:
"Anton got nabbed by a UFO craft,
they ran their tests on him, that's a fact.
Hence all smeared in lipstick, that lad,
strolled home commando, sans underpants clad."
Humor punctures the cosmic grandeur, reminding us that even in the universe's grandest dramas, someone ends up walking home confused.
