Description
This artwork depicts an anthropomorphic monkey with blond fur, wearing a pink headband and a light-colored textured jacket. The figure, with its mouth wide open in an expression bordering on a scream or forced laugh, wears opaque round glasses that neutralize any precise emotional interpretation. In the background, repurposed "Banana Republic" banknotes are juxtaposed with OBEY-style propaganda visuals and a hypnotic repetition of stylized simian faces arranged in a grid, evoking duplication and standardization. The saturation of identical motifs creates an impression of infinite echo, where the individual dissolves into the repetition of the same. The artwork creates a tension between the subject's excessive expression and the uniformity of the setting, suggesting a loss of identity in favor of collective mimicry. A visual critique of cultural contagion and the erasure of singularity.
Presentation
Karl Kox (1990) is a Franco-Belgian artist, from a family of intellectuals.
A self-confident dunce with a chaotic educational background, he leaves the family fold quite early to “See the World"
After several artistic collaborations and training as a graphic designer, he decided to strike out on his own.
Passionate about digital art, he has devoted himself to his career as an artist since 2022.
