Description
This experimental print blends acrylic textures with a raw, instinctive approach. The composition emerges from a void of neutral space. Soft yellow arcs collide with a fluid blue streak. These organic forms suggest a visceral energy. The imagery evokes the intimacy of the human body through an abstract lens. It reflects a fearless exploration of femininity and gender. The artist utilizes body prints to challenge traditional perceptions of the nude. This artwork sits at the intersection of Pop Art and Art brut. It prioritizes emotional honesty over formal precision. The colors vibrate against the pale background. Every stroke feels spontaneous and urgent. The result is a delicate yet provocative study of physical presence. The piece captures a fleeting moment of biological connection. It emphasizes the fragility and power of the female form through minimal gesture. The application of acrylic creates a tactile depth. This 2020 creation focuses on the raw essence of human anatomy.
Presentation
Dzovig Arnelian (b. 1996) is a Beirut-based Lebanese-Armenian artist whose works address themes related to gender roles, feminism, and the criticism of patriarchy. Her practice is mainly focused on painting and exploring her body as her paint brush, etching, engraving, and photography. Her depiction of deeply personal subjects is bold yet sensitive, offering a view of her world in an intimate, subtle and vulnerable manner.
Arnelian's contemporary expressionist style is typified by her use of bold and vibrant colors and she also experiments with versatile mediums, using material from her everyday life that evoke feelings of sensuality, love, fertility, and intimacy. Arnelian's bold yet delicate expression challenges prevalent stereotypes about femininity, sexuality and feelings we trap and express in our bodies.
Arnelian obtained her bachelor's degree in plastic arts in 2019 and later completed her master's degree in fine arts in 2021 from the Lebanese University. She held her first solo exhibition "24 Universes" in 2020 at Artlab Gallery in Beirut and has since participated in several solo and group exhibitions in Egypt, Spain, the United States and Japan. Her works have also been acquired by many private collectors from across the world.
Dzovig Arnelian is also the founder of Arneli Art Gallery.
