Description
The gesture imposes itself forcefully. The black ink dominates the center of the composition. It forms a dense, almost opaque mass. Dynamic projections escape from it. They draw abrupt trajectories on the light background.
The contrast is accentuated with touches of ochre. These splashes bring an earthy warmth. The eye circulates between the fine lines and the broad spots. The movement seems frozen in the instant.
The aquatint allows for a richness of textures here. The grain of the paper dialogues with the fluidity of the ink. The visual tension arises from the balance between the void and the full. Each drip testifies to an action direct on the support.
This abstract composition plays on spontaneity. It evokes a raw energy. The graphic work emphasizes the precision of the line against the randomness of the spots.
Realized in 2010, this print explores the depth of blacks. The whole unfolds on a vertical format.
Presentation
Angelo LUCCIA was born in Florence in August 1952 by the Arno, not far from the current opera house, his career remains a mystery. In his spare work, one can find a marked taste for that Florentine severity, the one that strikes when passing in front of the Uffizi and almost catching the gaze of Lorenzo il magnifico by chance. He speaks little of his work and if he does, he asks you to listen to the lamentations of the prophet Jeremiah: "Jerusalem convertere ad dominum Deum tuum", the vertigo of the harmonics of the assassin prince Gesualdo, the amorous letter of the seventh book of Claudio Monteverdi's madrigals, or even the quartets of Arnold Schoenberg or Bela Bartok. He says rigor, he says nonchalance, Tuscan light.
Relativity, speed of light, "reviens soulamite", "nigra sunt sed formosa", gamma bursts, magnitudes, collapses, black holes, globular clusters, Hubbel's constant, serenade for wind instruments K 361.
Losses, writings, the collages are a very complex succession of impressions, then tears; an image is often split in two and then recomposed, metaphor for the impossibility of being.
