Description
This dynamic sculpture presents a riveting blend of materials and motion, capturing a figure in graceful mid-flight. Constructed from intricately woven metal wire, the sculpture illustrates a humanoid form poised with elegance and strength. Its distinctive textural surface reflects innovative craftsmanship, creating a striking contrast with the delicate, ethereal wings, crafted from what appears to be a lightweight, fibrous material. These wings inject a sense of lightness and transcendence, propelling the figure forward. Mounted on a simple, stark white base, the sculpture stands out sharply against its surroundings, drawing the viewer's eye towards its fluid yet powerful form. The interplay between the robust metal body and the fragile wings encapsulates a sense of freedom and aspiration, making it a compelling centerpiece that marries industrial strength with poetic grace. This artwork challenges perception and invites contemplation on themes of balance, strength, and liberation.
Presentation
Karen Axikyan was born in Yerevan, Armenia, in 1963. He has always loved art and lives there. At different periods of his life, Karen Axikyan was interested in different spheres of art. First he drew oil paintings, then he started painting beautiful batik scarves, and then he moved on to the amazing world of sculptures.
In short, he is interested in everything related to art. For the past 15 years, he has been creating metal sculptures. It is said that he has a huge zoo with his different and wild animals. As Karen Axikyans says, he does not decide which animal what type of emotion the sculpture should have, he decides its emotion. Without having any cultural education, he was always in art, the only education he received was the artist who was his neighbor and he generally spent his time following the artists' works.
Karen Axikyan says metal is an instrument through which she can convey her emotional states. When creating a sculpture, her soul seems to be cleansed. Her latest collection is called "Little World" because the sculptures are so small they can fit in the palm of her hand.
