Description
This fascinating artwork depicts a serene face, sculpted from a complex assemblage of small three-dimensional wooden pieces. Each meticulously carved element contributes to the unique texture and depth of the face. Shades of blue and green blend harmoniously, evoking a sense of mystical tranquility. The peacefully closed eyes convey an expression of meditation and inner calm. The ingenious use of color and structure creates a striking visual effect, giving the illusion of movement and fluidity. This piece stands out for its technical innovation and its ability to evoke a deep emotional response, seamlessly merging traditional and modern art. Its geometric forms and carefully chosen color palette embody a perfect harmony between structure and abstraction, capturing the essence of silent contemplation.
Presentation
Born in Sydney, Australia, in 1959, raised in Southern France, Gil Bruvel started experimenting with art at age 9. His father, a cabinet maker acquainted Gil with wood sculpting and furniture design, Gil applied these skills to his functional art designs and sculptures years later. In 1974, Gil began his studies at an art restoration workshop in Chateaurenard, France, under M. Laurent de Montcassin, learning the techniques of Old and Modern Masters as well as art history of the 14th-20th century. Thereafter, he set up his studio in St. Remy de Provence until 1986 when he first made his way to the United States, making it his permanent residence in 1990.
