Description
This captivating artwork depicts a stylized bear sculpture, constructed from multiple blocks stacked into a pixelated design. The textured surface, composed of varied cubes, skillfully plays with light, creating a striking polychrome effect that evolves from deep blue to warm gold. The three-dimensional structure evokes a digital aesthetic, skillfully blending tradition and modernity. The play of colors and shades reflect the interplay between technology and art. The bear's posture, standing on a white plinth, symbolizes stability and strength while capturing the playful essence of pop culture. This masterpiece represents a bold fusion of contemporary art and design, prompting reflection on the transformation of traditional forms in the digital age.
Presentation
Born in Sydney, Australia, in 1959, raised in Southern France, Gil Bruvel started experimenting with art at age 9. His father, a cabinet maker acquainted Gil with wood sculpting and furniture design, Gil applied these skills to his functional art designs and sculptures years later. In 1974, Gil began his studies at an art restoration workshop in Chateaurenard, France, under M. Laurent de Montcassin, learning the techniques of Old and Modern Masters as well as art history of the 14th-20th century. Thereafter, he set up his studio in St. Remy de Provence until 1986 when he first made his way to the United States, making it his permanent residence in 1990.
