Geoide #3. From The Geoide Series, 2019

Fredy Saul Serrano

The artwork is a three-state model of an inorganic body, beginning with a black, alien-like rock formation, which gradually unfolds as it evolves, revealing its contents as a whitish crystal with unknown properties.

Serrano's artistic work centers on an interest in exploring his territory and its representation. In recent years, he has focused on the natural sciences as an object of study for his research and creation, seeking to establish connections between remembered events and other fictions in his imagination. This line of work emerges from the investigations he has conducted in a territory called Laguna, whose meaning expands into synonyms and/or other definitions of the word—for example, when speaking of a "mental gap"—which are translated into the visual metaphors of this place, constructed from childhood memories.

This captivating artwork features a uniquely faceted, geometrically abstract white sculpture encased within a pristine glass dome. The enigmatic form, resembling a modern gemstone, invites viewers to contemplate its precise angles and smooth surfaces. Resting on a finely crafted wooden base, the dome serves both as a protective shell and a means to focus attention solely on the sculpture's intricate design. The contrast between the cool, crisp glass and the warm, natural wood base highlights the artist's intent to blend modernity with organic elements. The starkness of the white structure against the transparent dome creates a sense of purity and isolation, evoking themes of preservation and introspection. This piece is a striking example of contemporary art, combining minimalist aesthetics with conceptual depth.
