Description
This captivating sculpture presents a human figure carved from stone, distinguished by its abstract and stylized features. The figure sports voluminous hair, sculpted in a striking contrast between the raw material and polished surfaces. The clean, geometric face adds a modern and introspective dimension to the work. The figure's arms are outstretched forward, suggesting an offering or a gesture of welcome, lending a vibrant dynamism to the statue. The meticulous work of the lines on the tunic evokes a rich texture, offering a striking visual contrast between matte and polished finishes. This creation stands out for its ability to skillfully blend tradition and modernity, capturing the essence of human duality in a contemporary style. A piece that invites reflection and contemplation.
Presentation
N'goni Mashaya is a renowned artist of the Zimbabwean sculptors' movement. For 60 years, this movement has been considered a cornerstone of contemporary art. Currently, several Zimbabwean artists are among the most acclaimed sculptors in the world. Better known since its origins as Shona art, this art intrigues and captivates with the modernity of its works. It is African art, yet contemporary, spontaneous art without reference to ancestral tradition.
