Description
This sculpture is distinguished by its slender, sinuous silhouette, crafted from polished stone that blends raw rusticity with refined elegance. The face engraved at the top, with its delicately carved features, seems to emerge naturally from the material, evoking a profound connection with nature. The contrasting texture between the smooth and rough surfaces subtly plays with the light, accentuating the work's graceful curves. This piece, both contemporary and timeless, reflects exceptional craftsmanship, where every detail testifies to meticulous thought. Its vertical form expresses an upward movement, perhaps symbolizing the quest for spiritual union or elevation. This intriguing work captures the essence of harmony between humankind and mineral, inviting contemplation and personal interpretation while remaining visually captivating.
Presentation
N'goni Mashaya is a renowned artist of the Zimbabwean sculptors' movement. For 60 years, this movement has been considered a cornerstone of contemporary art. Currently, several Zimbabwean artists are among the most acclaimed sculptors in the world. Better known since its origins as Shona art, this art intrigues and captivates with the modernity of its works. It is African art, yet contemporary, spontaneous art without reference to ancestral tradition.
