Two Spaces, 2023

Masaya Eguchi

“Two Spaces" is carefully made assembling mineral and other pigments with acrylic paint, metal powder and resin on a wooden panel.

The Japanese artist Masaya Eguchi is interested in the unclear, unstated, unspoken word, what is between A and B? or what is both A and B? Eguchi works with organic forms that involve the idea of movement but can't be consciously perceived. He intends to create a new process of perception rather than provide the "conclusiveness" art is supposed to provide. He aims to escape representation through form or meaning and, instead, strive for tacit, intimated imagery in which no two viewers arrive at the same answer. Eguchi focuses on the perception of sense and structure in our lives and the world, thereby questioning reality and common conventions. He says: "I sow doubt and create ambiguity. In doing so, the intent is to prompt a view of reality from a new perspective" Eguchi works from his studio in Barcelona, where he currently resides. He has shown his work throughout Japan, in the UK, Spain, Germany and France with pieces in many collections such as Sudo Art Museum (Japan) and Morgan Stanley Japan Securities Co, Ltd.
