Description
This wooden artwork is distinguished by its organic and fluid form, evoking the grace of a creature in motion. The sculpture rests on a smooth surface, its elegant curves contrasting with the deep blue background. The wood's texture is delicately accentuated by sinuous line patterns, reminiscent of tree rings, enriching the overall natural dimension. The absence of figurative details lends this piece a captivating abstraction, stimulating the imagination and inviting contemplation. The imperfect symmetry of the elements suggests a harmony between structure and freedom, echoing natural forms while maintaining a modern character. This subtle interplay between simplicity and complexity positions this sculpture as a remarkable example of contemporary artistic expression, prompting reflection on the interaction between nature and human creativity.
Birch wood, invisible varnish, articulated head, for indoor use.
Presentation
Born in 1970, Gaël Rouxeville is the artist of the Living Curve. His work, disseminated in France and internationally, has been the subject of numerous solo and group exhibitions, publications, and has been included in private and public collections (notably that of the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia).
Drawing on expertise in industrial design and cabinetmaking, and committed to an eco-responsible approach, his creative process engages memory, the unconscious, and the imagination. For 30 years, he has explored the possibilities of the "Living Curve," a source of inspiration, an expressive language, and the guiding thread of his work. The numerous media, materials, and themes he explores are never an end in themselves, but rather a means of approaching and experiencing a universal consciousness.
His work results in a world of organic, “living" forms, figurative or not; forms that are simple in appearance and open to interpretation, engaging the viewer's memories and imagination. Gaël Rouxeville's art is less intellectual than sensual. It's an invitation to let go, to welcome, to stop searching... Like these curves that stretch and relax, it suddenly seems that time is elongating. The boundaries that appeared so clear become blurred, shifting... The mind then floats, as if levitating; a dance of space and time!
