Description
This sculpture humorously and irreverently subverts the codes of Parisian luxury by transforming a simple wrapped candy into an object of desire. Draped in a vibrant, almost incandescent orange, it immediately catches the eye with its luscious brilliance and apparent lightness. The black lettering, intentionally minimalist, evokes the emblems of major fashion houses while playing on the boundary between consumer product and work of art.
The contrast between the sweetness of the confection and the world of prestige creates a savory tension: here, luxury becomes a treat—instant and almost addictive. The folds of the wrapper, frozen in the material, give the illusion of an object captured in a suspended moment, as if time had crystallized a gesture of indulgence. Mounted on a simple and elegant black base, the piece takes on the look of a contemporary pop icon. Behind its apparent simplicity, the work questions the value we place on brands and the desires they provoke with a subtle, playful irony.
Presentation
Orvalis, born in 1968 in Rhône-Alpes, is a self-taught artist whose world unfolds exclusively through sculpture. Working with resin with an almost instinctive precision, he shapes forms that are both playful and striking, where the material seems to capture a moment suspended between irony and desire, between apparent lightness and deeper reflection.
His approach, free from any academic constraints, is rooted in a spontaneous, visual style, nourished by contemporary codes and the symbols of our time. Everyday objects are reinterpreted, repurposed, and elevated, subtly shifting from the familiar to the iconic. They thus become fragments of pop culture, revisited with elegance, where humor converses with a form of almost luxurious sophistication.
Each piece by Orvalis embodies a delicate duality: between indulgence and prestige, between accessibility and desirability. The resin, which he masters with finesse, becomes a true language—a medium where brilliance catches the eye while the volumes invite a more intimate interpretation. Through his sculptures, the object is transformed, transcending its primary function to become a presence, an emotion, a strong and instantly recognizable visual signature.
