Description
This fascinating sculpture captures the essence of youth through two colorful and expressive figures. It stages a young woman and a young man united by a harmony of colors despite their differences in style and personality. The inscriptions “Peace", “Hope" and “#MeToo" present on their clothing and accessories highlight the values and concerns of their generation: peace, hope, engagement, and social consciousness. The work which evokes the codes of social networks symbolizes both intimacy, self-expression, and new forms of communication. Through a subtle play of textures, colors, and postures, the artist sensitively captures the humanity and energy of this contemporary youth.
ACF: “Réaumur-Sébastopol represents two young people seen and heard as neighbors on a bench in the Parisian subway, line 4. Their complicity and their engaged exchanges enchanted me and led me to ask them for a photo on the platform at the subway exit. The pose is the one they offered me on the platform of the station in a joyful and sincere spontaneity."
This couple marks the starting point of the “Peace and Hope" series of portraits which is inspired by fortuitous geographical encounters of anonymous young people, and pays tribute to them. The works translate the vitality, complexity, and commitment of a generation deeply rooted in its time.
Molded in the mass, clay covered, spot enamel.
2 assembled figurines (wood mortise-and-tenon) on a freestanding base.
Packaging, insurance, shipping entrusted to a professional.
Presentation
Trained as an architect, graphic designer, iconographer, and illustrator, I now devote myself to ceramic sculpture*.
Inspired by human and artistic encounters, and by travel, I continue the tradition of sculpting. Portraits, characters, scenes, and chronicles inhabit my world.
In search of a unique, personal, meaningful and sensitive narrative, I observe man in his relationship to the world, to his environment under influences, to Art, in order to offer a contemporary polychrome, poetic, sometimes enigmatic vision.
The earth is the providential tactile territory that allows me to produce from little to move towards the essential: to find a freedom of representation and emotions, a language of volume and light, of meaning and signs, of narratives and imaginaries.
However, ceramic sculpture is a demanding craft. I seek a symbiotic relationship with the material in the creation of the form, right up to its transformation by fire. The delicate process of applying color and glaze fosters the same connection, throughout the firings until the nuances are revealed.
I am currently working with a type of earthenware clay which allows me to fire my pieces at low temperatures, thus preserving all the freshness and brightness of the color in a contemporary matte finish.
My workshop is located in Reims, in Champagne.
Born in a land of chalk and cathedrals, I discovered clay at almost forty; I then began entering sculpture competitions and pursuing further training. Ten years later, I launched my professional career. In 2022, I had the honor of having a booth at the "Révélations" exhibition at the Grand Palais in Paris. In 2023, the Perrotin Gallery purchased a portrait of Sophie Calle from me. A multiple recipient of the Luxembourg Art Prize, I am also a member of Ateliers d'Art de France.
