Description
Playful teddy bears hide inside bold blue and yellow shapes.
This contemporary mixed-media artwork transforms familiar teddy bear figures into a striking visual game of camouflage, color, and emotional memory. Soft relief teddy bears emerge from — and disappear into — bold geometric color fields of electric blue, pastel aqua, bright lemon yellow, crisp white, and graphic black dots. The result feels playful at first glance, but the longer the viewer looks, the stranger and more psychological the experience becomes.
Inspired by dopamine decor, Neo-Pop aesthetics, contemporary design culture, and color block abstraction, the artwork explores how modern life often hides vulnerability behind brightness, decoration, and visual overload. Childhood symbols become fragmented, partially erased, absorbed into patterns and surfaces until they hover somewhere between object and illusion. Basically: cute teddy bears, but with an existential crisis quietly happening underneath. Contemporary art really does love emotional damage wrapped in beautiful packaging.
The layered plaster relief texture adds sculptural depth and shifting shadows, making the artwork constantly change depending on light and viewing angle. Collectors searching for modern pop artwork, teddy bear wall art, geometric abstract decor, dopamine decor artwork, contemporary mixed media art, colorful relief artwork, sculptural wall decor, Neo-Pop interior art, minimalist pop culture artwork, playful contemporary art, and modern nursery-inspired luxury decor will strongly connect with this piece.
Its bold yet clean aesthetic makes it ideal for contemporary interiors, designer apartments, creative studios, modern offices, gallery walls, fashion-forward spaces, and collectors who love artwork balancing irony, nostalgia, and emotional complexity. It also works perfectly as a unique gift for lovers of modern design, Pop Art, collectible toys, and statement decor pieces.
Presentation
Julia Mauri is a contemporary artist, whose work explores memory, identity, and the emotional echoes of childhood. Born in 1985 in the former USSR, she holds a degree in linguistics from Udmurt State University but found her creative voice through visual art.
Mauri works primarily with epoxy resin and mirror surfaces, creating vibrant, tactile compositions that invite the viewer into a space of reflection—both literal and emotional. By combining candy-colored hues with glossy reflections, she evokes the tension between childhood joy and adult introspection. Her art turns light and surface into tools of psychological exploration, with each work acting as a window into fluid memory, shifting perception, and the vulnerability of self-awareness.
Her ongoing series, Let's Escape to Childhood, captures this dynamic interplay between past and present. In her practice, the mirror becomes more than a surface—it's a metaphor for transformation, presence, and emotional transparency. Resin, with its transformation from liquid to solid, symbolizes how fleeting memories settle into the structures that shape us.
Julia Mauri has participated in both national and international exhibitions, including The Universe Colors at A.L.L. Gallery (Italy) and Bare Walls at Gallery 676 (Russia). She is currently preparing for her debut solo exhibition at Signal Art Space in Kaliningrad. Her works are held in private and institutional collections in Russia and beyond.
