Description

The renaissance towards freedom

Realization 2026. number 1/8 + 4EA

The third stage of the artist's initiatory cycle, Born to be Free symbolizes the moment when being leaves the depths to rediscover the light. After confronting its fears and transforming its wounds into strength, it undertakes its ascent towards the surface.

This ascent represents much more than a simple return. It embodies the rebirth, the regained confidence, and the liberation from the invisible chains we impose on ourselves. Each movement towards the light is a victory over doubt, fear, and the limits that were believed insurmountable.

Born to be Free reminds us that true freedom is never given to us. It is conquered. It is born from the courage to face its depths, to rebuild oneself, and to dare to become fully oneself.

This work marks the moment when being catches its breath and discovers that the greatest of freedoms is to finally be in accord with oneself.

Presentation

Thierry Trivès, known as "TT", is a painter, sculptor and visual artist born in Marseille in 1966, of Spanish and Italian descent. Based in Mougins, he has been developing a unique body of work for almost twenty years, free from any imposed artistic movement, where emotion plays a central role.

He began his artistic journey by creating human sculptures composed of revolver casings, a metaphor for the fragility of the contemporary world. From his earliest creations, his work has distinguished itself by its expressive power and its ability to directly engage the viewer. A self-taught artist, Thierry Trivès explores a wide range of materials, including glass, acrylic, resin, brass, aluminum, bronze, and concrete.

In 2007, the City of Saint-Raphaël dedicated his first solo exhibition to him. Three years later, in an international context marked by geopolitical tensions, he created the "Peace & Toon" series, inspired by the universal themes of love and peace. He reinterpreted the famous hippie symbol, integrating it into a minimalist panda head, which became one of his signature creations. Quickly exhibited in French and international galleries, his works have captivated an ever-growing audience.

Throughout his career, Thierry Trivès has participated in several group exhibitions alongside major Pop Art and Nouveau Réalisme artists, including Andy Warhol, Robert Indiana, Erró, and César. In 2011, for the "Picasso Forever" event in Paris, he created four unique sculptures in homage to the Spanish master. The following year, he was invited to participate in "Art along the Summits" in Courchevel, where one of his monumental sculptures was exhibited outdoors in the heart of the resort.

In 2016, the City of Cannes honored his work by installing one of his monumental sculptures on the Croisette.

The year 2017 marked a personal and artistic turning point. The loss of his partner led him to develop a more introspective body of work, driven by questions of resilience, rebuilding, and the human condition. Refusing any categorization, the artist asserts his creative freedom.

"I don't like to be pigeonholed. Being self-taught allows me to remain a man free from all constraints."

In 2019, "La Palme" was created, a deeply symbolic sculpture that inaugurated a new chapter in his work. In it, the artist evokes everyone's capacity to overcome hardship and find the light again:

"Sooner or later, each of us is led to plunge into the abyss. Finding the key to return to the surface is a true feat."

In 2021, his sculpture "Resilience" joined the collections of the Underwater Museum of Marseille, where it is installed five meters deep off the Mediterranean coast.

In 2024, Thierry Trivès opened his art gallery in the heart of the village of Mougins and continued his exploration of reconstruction through two major new sculptures: "Le Cri du Cœur" (The Cry of the Heart) and "L'Envol" (The Flight). Together with "La Palme" (The Palm) and "Résilience" (Resilience), these works form an inseparable quadrilogy, the true backbone of his artistic universe, exploring the themes of fall, introspection, resilience, and rebirth.

In 2025, the City of Mougins acquired his sculpture "La Palme", which is now permanently exhibited in the heart of the old village.

Between depth and light, Thierry Trivès develops a humanist body of work that explores the fragility of existence while celebrating the human capacity to rise again. Increasingly sought after by collectors and art lovers, his work is now gaining visibility on the international art scene and is included in numerous private collections in France and abroad.
