Description

A nocturnal silhouette imposes itself with serenity. This ceramic sculpture captures the essence of a raptor in a contemplative posture.

The work relies on the ancestral technique of raku. This Japanese process imposes a brutal thermal shock.

The result manifests as a network of fine and unpredictable cracks. These lines draw an organic map on the white surface of the bird.

Touches of deep black highlight the plumage. The smoke has infiltrated the material to create natural contrasts.

The raw aspect of the lower part anchors the piece in the earth. The expression of the gaze, closed or dreamy, brings a soothing dimension to the animal.

The play between the whiteness of the glaze and the smoked areas accentuates the relief of the feathers. This creation marries the rigor of modeling with the chance of fire.

The whole exudes a calm presence.

Presentation

Sandra, passionate about sculpture, is a true explorer of the beauty of Nature through her art.
Her artistic journey began at the Louvre School, where she studied Art in all its forms. For 25 years, she immersed herself in the world of painting, exploring colors in all their ranges and nuances.

However, her call for sculpture does not take long to manifest itself, prompting her to turn towards modeling on earth. This change marks the beginning of a new adventure for Sandra. She engages in different sculptors' workshops, where she explores and perfects her technique. Her inexhaustible source of inspiration comes directly from Nature and the animal world, particularly through marine mammals and the richness of their expressions.

She also explores the raku technique, an ancient Japanese firing method. This technique allows for the creation of original works characterized by the contrasts of the smoking and the fascinating colors of the glaze combined with the cracks resulting from the thermal shock. Each piece is an adventure, a dance between fire, earth, and the artist herself. In the uncertainty of the glaze fusion, in the deliberate imperfection of the smoke, authentic and undoubtedly unique pieces are born.

Thus, with the constant idea of highlighting the beauty of Nature, her stance is that of an explorer on a path towards inspiration and the progress of her technique to bring forth from the earth expressive works in seeking to express truth and fertile inventiveness…The path is never over.
