Sculptors Artists

Since he started his prolific artistic career, the work by Eugenio Merino (Madrid, 1975) has been reflecting problematic issues of our contemporary societies, such as politics, war, religion or topics that generate social controversy. Throughout his career, the artist has demonstrated a transversal ability to mix different media, such as neorealistic sculpture, painting, drawings or installations. He finds inspiration in the popular imagination and media. The opposition of different realities, models and symbols generate different interpretations of his work. The artist usually assumes a cynical role, and unveils uncomfortable truths and realities. His recent productions have revolved around the representations of cultural stereotypes or 21st Century icons related to politics, art, religion or terrorism. His works move between causticity and satire, and they play with complex and real situations, mixing drama and sarcasm. Eugenio Merino has exhibited recently in New York, Santiago de Chile, in the Station Museum in Texas, the TEA in Tenerife, in the Propaganda Art Space in Munich, the Villa Empain-Fondation in Brussels and the Barjola Museum, Gijón. He has participated in several group shows in private entities and public institutions in the USA, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, France, Holland, Lithuania, Finland, Mexico and Italy, or the B.P.S. 22 in Charleroi, the Lens Politica Festival or the Taipei MOCA, among others.
