The imagination of the artist has found a masterly development in her mural artworks. The wall installations are made of various shades of colors of ceramic pendants sewn on a former linen canvas. Canva is fixed on wooden frame.
Wall works: the Nimbes series A motionless journey into a magical and mysterious night sky. A dive into the dark that makes us lose our bearings and absorbs our dark thoughts like a black hole absorbs light. The artist plays here with a multitude of effects between matte and gloss, inspired in turn by graphite or old lace. As if facing a window overlooking the sea, we like to sit in front of the work every day and let our gaze wander through its sinuous reliefs. Falsely monochrome and subtly asymmetrical, this large tondo nevertheless surprises with its harmony. Made up of a multitude of delicate tassels, it patiently reveals its mysteries to contemplative spectators. In the 2010s, the artist's imagination found a masterful development in the creation of monumental mural works. This change of scale which appears in his work gives it a new dimension. “I put these wall pieces in a circle because it’s the perfect proportion. The tondo are directly inspired by the mandala: sacred circle. For me these works are spiritual journeys. When I create them, there is a repetitive gesture in the making of the tassels which becomes meditative for me. And for the viewer there is also a meditative path in contemplation. » It’s a dive into luminous color. While an intense red warms the heart, a deep blue recalls the sea and the purity of white evokes antiquity. This multitude of shades offers the infinity of a color, a dive into pure color. Repeat, start again, repeat, start again... Fabienne Auzolle loves everyday life, the quiet rhythm of workshop life. The ritual of each day which has a soothing function. She finds serenity in the repetition of things, in the cadence of movement. Her art is thus composed of an action that she reiterates, and, along the way, she creates her works: like her tassels that she adds and reshapes, to compose her works. An abundance of shades of the same color, available on thousands of small ceramic pieces, pierced with a hole and sewn in a staggered pattern on a canvas of spectacular diameter. Tassel by tassel, she places her ceramic mosaics like a giant and prolific painting where her colorful compositions harmonize. It is an endless and constantly renewed work: vast tondo of gold or autumn, oceanic painting, the artist draws his colors as a painter would on a canvas. The canvas becomes volume, moving and luminous, in which the material gives a resonant, almost sonorous shine. The artist uses recurring shapes: the mandorla (oval or almond shape in which sacred characters are inscribed), the square, the circle. The tassel is not molded. She does not want calibrated forms to have a living work.
Fabienne Auzolle, born in 1967 in Clermont-Ferrand, is a French ceramic artist, contemporary sculptor, and creator of ceramic installations, recognized for her poetic universe where contemporary ceramics, glazed earthenware, textile art, symbolism, sacred art, mythology, nature, and femininity engage in dialogue. A graduate of the École du Louvre (1989), where she studied art history, and later the Centre Artisanal de la Terre at ENSAA Duperré in Paris (1995), she has developed a practice deeply informed by European artistic heritage, decorative arts, and global ceramic traditions.
To enrich her visual language, Fabienne Auzolle has undertaken numerous study trips to Burkina Faso, where she discovered primitive firing techniques and bogolan, as well as to Italy, where she deepened her practice of glazed earthenware. Artist residencies in South Korea, Norway, and Iran have also nourished her reflections on rituals, beliefs, and folk traditions. She currently lives and works in her studio located in a former glassworks in Choisy-le-Roi.
Fabienne Auzolle's work is distinguished by ceramic sculptures entirely shaped by hand, to which she sometimes adds textiles, threads, beads, shells, antique jewelry, or botanical elements. Her famous female figures, often covered in flowers or foliage, evoke ex-votos, religious icons, trees of life, or cabinets of curiosities. Her work explores the links between the sacred and the profane, the real and the imaginary, memory, spirituality, and contemplation. Art history serves as a constant reference in her approach, with a particular admiration for the 17th century, literature, classical painting, and grand architectural programs.
A member of the Ateliers d'Art de France, Fabienne Auzolle exhibits regularly in France and internationally. Her main solo exhibitions include “Arbre de Vie" at Galerie Lefor Openo (Paris, 2013), exhibitions at the Musée La Piscine in Roubaix (2014), the Lafayette Design Center in Shanghai (2014), “Révélations" at the Grand Palais (Paris, 2015), the Musée Bourgoin-Jallieu (2016), the Miaja Gallery in Singapore (2016), “Alchimia" at Galerie Insula (Paris, 2017), as well as presentations at Galerie Véronèse (Nantes, 2018) and Galerie Talents (Paris, 2019). She also participates in numerous group exhibitions and international fairs, notably Collect at the Saatchi Gallery in London (2015 and 2017), Révélations – Biennale Internationale Métiers d'Art et Création at the Grand Palais (2015 and 2019), Maison & Objet in Singapore and Miami, the ICFF in New York, as well as exhibitions in Japan, Korea, England, Norway, and the United States.
Through a unique body of work blending contemporary sculpture, art ceramics, artisan craftsmanship, visual poetry, and a botanical imaginary, Fabienne Auzolle has established herself as one of the leading figures of contemporary French ceramics. Her dreamlike universe, imbued with delicacy and spirituality, invites the viewer to a sensitive meditation on living beings, transmission, and the marvelous.
