Biography

Noah Becker is a Canadian contemporary artist, painter, musician, publisher, and exhibition curator, recognized for a multidisciplinary practice that combines abstract painting, contemporary expressionism, figuration, music, and art criticism. Born in 1970 in Toronto, he grew up in an artistic environment influenced by his father, the painter Philip Becker. He studied visual arts at the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD University) before pursuing his career between Canada and the United States, developing a body of work that makes painting, writing, and contemporary culture dialogue with each other.

Noah Becker's painting is characterized by great gestural freedom and an experimental approach to color. Working mainly with oil, acrylic, and mixed media on canvas, he develops compositions where abstraction, figurative fragments, portraits, landscapes, and references to art history alternate. His work also draws from abstract expressionism, neo-expressionism in the legacy of the New York School, favoring an energetic painting where gesture, material, and chromatic superimpositions become the main vectors of emotion. Accidents of material, transparencies, and pictorial rhythms contribute to the creation of open spaces leaving a wide place for interpretation.

In parallel with his activity as a painter, Noah Becker founded the international magazine Whitehot Magazine of Contemporary Art in 2008, of which he is the editor-in-chief. This publication has become a reference in the field of contemporary art, bringing together critics, artists, curators, and art historians around the major issues of current creation. Through this editorial activity, he actively contributes to the dissemination and promotion of the international art scene.

Noah Becker's works have been exhibited in numerous contemporary art galleries in Canada, the United States, Europe, and Asia, notably in New York, Toronto, Miami, London, and Berlin. His paintings are featured in several private collections and are regularly presented at international fairs and exhibitions. Through his activities as a painter, author, and publisher, Noah Becker occupies a singular place in the contemporary art scene, developing a work where abstract painting, expressionism, color, material, contemporary creation, and art criticism mutually enrich each other in an ever-evolving artistic research.
