5-layer "Blauw Delft" screenprint made from the original hand-cut stencils "Kapitein August" from NILS.RVA's series "The Amsterdam Cyclist".
Hand-signed, framed under glass, limited edition of 30. Sold with a signed copy of "The Amsterdam Cyclist" book.
"Kapitein August" – August Dirks (born 1952) is known for having traveled the seven seas as the captain of "The Ship of Fools" (also known as "Azart Boat" ).
August bought his ship in 1989—a rusty, thirty-meter-long fishing boat. For 32 years, it was his home, his life. His crew members were musicians and actors—Dirks was the captain of a theater ship. Ideas for the shows developed during sea voyages, while audiences watched from stands on the quays during performances.
Travel was the goal, the ship was the means. It took him and his crew to countless ports around the world. In 2021, he set sail for Australia, crossing the Atlantic Ocean and passing through the Panama Canal.
When he learned of his terminal illness during this last journey, he made the decision to leave his ship behind—but not to abandon it.
It was pulled onto the beach in a village near the city of Manta, Ecuador, where it now serves as a cultural center and a crowd-puller along the boulevard.
Kapitein August now cruises the streets of Amsterdam on his bike, still easily recognizable with his hat, bells jingling on his vest, and clogs on his feet.

Presentation
Nils Westergard (NILS.RVA) is a Belgian-American street artist and filmmaker based in Amsterdam. His works explore themes of intimacy, strength, and vulnerability. Starting with graffiti in Washington, DC, he honed his skills painting tunnels, bridges, and stage sets. His hand-cut stencil work laid the foundation for his studio practice. After studying film at Virginia Commonwealth University, he embarked on a journey to paint a different European city every week for 6 months, establishing himself in the street-art world. Today, his focus ranges from global subjects to intimate portraits, seen on walls worldwide and in galleries featuring his immensely detailed stencil work. Nils has exhibited with Amsterdam Street Art (ASA), Go Gallery, and is part of the collections of STRAAT Museum (Amsterdam) and Urban Nation (Berlin).
