“MANILA WORKER” has been awarded an Honorable Mention in the 2019 International Photography Awards. The winning entry competed in the Fine Art Portrait category.

The portrait series and photo installation shows construction worker in Manila with their traditional way of protecting themselves from sun, heat and dust in bustling downtown Manila. These guys are constantly shaping the rapid development of the Manila skyline. Usually, the workers operate behind construction site barriers and are barely noticed by the public. With the exhibition in the Ayala Museum 2018 Sven Pfrommer gave them a stage by showcasing the work in Manila.

The whole artwork contains 18 works, each 50x35 cm, Fujiflex metallic lambda print, incl. a wooden frame, ready to hang.

Sven Pfrommer

Germany Born in: 1965
Translation in progress

Always a border crosser between photography, painting and printmaking. Sven gives more or less the one or other art form the upper hand. His artworks are often photographs taken on his journeys which he combines with graphic fragments and painted areas back in his studio. Sven was born in Berlin, studied visual communication at the University of Hildesheim and earned the distinction of a British Council Scholar to study at The Royal College of Art in London. While working for several years as an art director and photographer, he has also spent the last 15 years focusing on the international art market. He established his own gallery for contemporary photography in the art capital Berlin a decade ago. Since 7 years he has also a lectureship for photography, art and design at different universities.

His work has been exhibited in 4 continents and published in United States, Canada, Netherlands and Germany. The Walter Thiemann price has been awarded to him in 1996. He has done commission works for the car industry, fashion industry, several hospitality and clinic projects.
