Sandra Courlivant

France Born in: 1973

Born in 1973, Sandra Courlivant lives and works in Maine et Loire. After training in Applied Arts, she began her artistic career by making decorations and murals for 10 years. Then she decides to specialize in equine sculpture.

She favors clay and is trained in a self-taught way following numerous exchanges with fellow ceramicists.

She is particularly attached to Mongolia where she stayed in 2012 and actively participates in Franco-Mongolian artistic exchanges. She quickly gained recognition through group exhibitions and is presented today in several galleries in France and abroad.

"Sandra Courlivant's universe is a reality that she models with a lot of poetry. She leaves us captivated in front of these Mongolian children launched in the mythical race of Naadam. Children who become one with their horses, child riders, players, dancers, musicians, who are happy to share their nomadic life. A life of which Sandra also shows us with great talent all the harshness for families."

"Since I was very young I have been passionate about horses, their elegance despite their mass and their power. However, I also love the horse on a daily basis, the simplicity and the poetry of the relationship that is sometimes established with man. also very inspired by the horses of Mongolia, in particular during the traditional race which takes place on the occasion of the national festival of Naadam, in full steppe, and which puts in the saddle very young riders.

I explore these different themes through clay. Terracotta stands out as evidence of the relationship between the animal and the land from which it comes. The three elements are found there: water, earth, fire. I like to give warm colors to my subjects made with acrylic wash. Each piece is unique."
