RIBEIRO, Alceu (Artigas, Uruguay, 1919 - Palma de Mallorca, 2013).  

Painter, sculptor and muralist representative of the Constructivist movement, Alceu Ribeiro was formed by Joaquin Torres-Garcia from 1939, thanks to a scholarship that allowed him to settle with his brother, also an artist, in Montevideo. He studied with the master for ten years until his death in 1949, and in his student days his work is already recognized with several awards from the National Hall of Montevideo, in 1940, 1941, 1942, 1943 and 1945. The following year , in 1946, It is disclosed in Paris through the Exhibition of Modern Painting. Uruguaya held there. In 1949 he founded the workshop El Molino, who reconverted in downtown Montevideo intellectuality, and that same year he made his first commissioned mural for the Palace of Light of the Uruguayan capital. Shortly thereafter, in 1953, he held his first solo exhibition at the Faculty of Architecture of this city. also continues to participate in official samples with great success, and making major mural projects, both pictorial and sculptural. In 1962 he entered as professor at the University of Montevideo Labour, and the next year on a long trip through Europe, that part after holding several samples on tour in South America, among other places in the Museum of Zea Medellin (Colombia). In 1964 he returned to Montevideo, and three years later held his first solo exhibition in the United States at the Mayfair Gallery Washington DC From these dates Ribeiro will exhibit his work in museums and galleries in South America, the United States and Europe, eventually settling in 1979 in Palma de Mallorca.
