“Divinity” is the title of this essential and enigmatic drawing by the french artist Jean Cocteau. A figure opening his arms and looking towards the sky is in the center of the scene. In the highest part of the composition there is a face. Could it be the divinity? Circular stamp lower right shows the important provenance of this drawing. This artwork is shipped from Italy.

Under existing legislation, any artwork in Italy created over 50 years ago by an artist who has died requires a licence for export regardless of the work’s market price. The shipping may require additional handling days to require the licence according to the final destination of the artwork.

Jean Cocteau

France Born in: 1889 Masterpieces

Jean Cocteau (5 July 1889, Maisons-Laffitte – 11 October 1963, Milly-la-Forêt) was a French writer, playwright, artist, sculptor, draftsman, and filmmaker. He became a member of the Académie française in 1955.

Jean Cocteau was one of the artists who marked the 20th century. He was friends with numerous avant-garde artists and an inspiration to them. A trendsetter, he inspired the artists of his generation creating portraits with a genius touch, always original and showing rare intuition and talent. From his early works to the issues in his later works, a certain "difficulty of being" is at the heart of his creation.

A multi-talented artist, Jean Cocteau first of all considered himself a poet and considered that every artwork is like poetry.
