Mehdi Djelil, better known as Bardi, is an Algerian painter born in 1985 in Makouda, Algeria. He graduated from the Superior School of Fine Arts of Algiers.
He is part of a new generation of Algerian artists who use freedom of expression and who do not hesitate to alterate the visual codes. His work is revealed progressively through his colorful personages coming out of a fantasy world and they reveal a tormented and emotionally charged life. The reflection of reality in his pieces is so subtle that we find ourselves immersed in an illusory and sarcastic universe. In relation to his work, the artist declares: " Man disturbs me, scares me and fascinates me, and I can not reproduce it or model it, I try to sublimate it in fantasy beings. I liberate him from his condition so that it can be a dream, a poem".
He has exhibited his work at the "Picturie Generale", Espace Artissimo (Algiers 2013), at the Second Biennial of Contemporary Art (Oran 2012), at the exhibition "Alger Tomorrow", 59 Rivoli and at the Algerian Cultural Center (Paris 2011), at the 6th Biennale of Art of the city of Tunis (Tunis 2010), at the Algerian Cultural Week in Moscow (2010), and at the Second Pan-African Festival, ESBA (Algiers 2009).
Besides that, he did a solo exhibition, "Bardi, Contemporary Drawing" at Box 24, Algiers 2012 and another one at the French Institute of Algiers the same year. Since May 16, 2015, he has exhibited several of his pieces at "La Baigoire".
