Rosemary Petyarre

Rosemary is an Aboriginal artist from a family that includes very famous painters.

Biography

Rosemary was born in the mid-1950s. From a group, the Anmatyerre, whose roots run deep in the ancestral soil of the bush, she grew up surrounded by orally passed-down stories, sacred tales, ancient knowledge and landscapes full of spirituality.

She began her career creating batiks, like most artists in Utopia, and started painting on canvas in 1988. She is capable of painting using a wide variety of techniques. She has many talented artists in her family, including her aunt Emily Kame, her brother Greenie Purvis, and her sister Evelyn Pultara. Today, she is known for her work focusing on medicinal leaves.
