Biography
Born in 1948, Luo Zhongli is a celebrated Chinese realist painter. He studied painting at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, where he is currently a professor, and received his MFA from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Antwerp in 1986.
Zhongli is known for his figurative paintings which capture the daily life of rural Chinese communities. His deeply humanistic style foregrounds empathy and compassion and explores the complexities of human existence.
Zhongli is best known for his 1980 portrait Father which remains one of the most recognizable works of contemporary Chinese art.
