Karine Barbier (dite Ka Bé)

Karine Barbier (Ka Bé) became interested in artistic collage in the mid-90s. Originally a stained glass artist, his attraction to composition and color is far from trivial. The collage came as a natural extension, recreating a colorful visual, like a stained glass window.
Her childhood spent in Montmartre, her personal travels and her professional years in the world of “image", as a production and film director assistant, undoubtedly contributed to developing her artistic and colorful vision of life. .

Turning to stained glass for the first time in 1991, she plays with transparencies and materials. She created several works of art for windows, furniture and other decorative objects. She then devoted herself to the “Tiffany" technique to create lamps.

His first collages are “personal". She likes to edit, assemble and edit the multiple images that today's society produces. Totally self-taught in this field, she draws her inspiration from old magazines and other supports and materials... These “recycled" images, taken out of their context, serve as a staging for her to express herself. Composed like melodies, both fluid and surprising, his work embodies his sensitive analysis of the world.

While prioritizing quality and attention to detail for a millimeter-precise finish, she handles mixed papers, cuts them, gives them another orientation, harmonizes the colors and glues them. She then gives the final touch to her creations with several layers of varnish. The result, like a pieced together puzzle, gives way to a new image revealing: an observation, a feeling, a perspective, an idea or even a critical vision of society in general.
