Tudor Onica

Tudor Onica was born in Romania in Brasov in 1951. He graduated from the School of Fine Arts in 1975 and arrived in Arles that same year.

He exhibited for the first time in France in 1976, in the Henri Comte room in Arles, then at the Palais des Papes in Avignon and at the gallery "Le Fil d'Ariane" in Paris. Starting in the 1980s, he works with the Galerie "Influx" (Aurélia Grégory) where his works are exhibited permanently. She organizes exhibitions for him in various locations, in France and abroad, and he is presented at many international contemporary art fairs such as FIAC in Basel, Cannes, Lille, Liège, Marseille, Nîmes, Paris, Strasbourg...

He exhibited in 1994, at the Sainte-Anne Chapel in Arles, the first approaches to his landscapes and in 2001, still in Arles, tauromachy drawings in the Henri Comte room.

In 2002, on the occasion of his exhibition, Jean-Claude Guerri invites him to work around his sculptures; he creates about twenty drawings.

In April 2008, he exhibited again at the Sainte-Anne Chapel in Arles a series of imaginary landscapes in the classical tradition, evoking at the same time the Tuscany of Leonardo da Vinci, the backgrounds of Botticelli or the antique architecture of Nicolas Poussin's paintings.

A discreet, simple, and modest man who attracts sympathy with his easygoing approach. Canut Reyes, of the Gipsy Kings, is one of his friends and he describes him in these terms:
