Biography
Korean artist, Jeong Min Lee first trained in traditional painting. Living in France for a few years, she has retained her attachment to Korean culture through her pictorial technique. Indeed, Jeong Min Lee works on mounted paper, that is to say pasted on canvas. This very specific paper is traditionally made in Korea from mulberry leaves. The artist indeed appreciates the irregular and raw aspect of this support. Then she paints in ink. Again this is a technique rooted in Korean culture. But if of course the references to tradition are evident in Jeong Min Lee's painting, we can still see a very contemporary imprint. Indeed, the artist seeks above all the purity of lines, the very graphic aspect of his subjects. Whether it is interwoven branches or a path in the undergrowth, it is above all the composition of the canvas that interests Jeong Min Lee. His work with color is based on the principle of harmony, no colors which collide, which attack by their intensity, but on the contrary a great softness. The use of diluted ink also allows this softness of the color that blends into the canvas. Between tradition and modernity, Jeong Min Lee offers delicate work, all in finesse. Its quality of execution emphasizes a sure gesture, pure lines and a subtle color treatment.
