Trained in artists' studios in Strasbourg, Paris and at the Ecole Supérieure d'Art de Mulhouse. Straightforward I am announcing the color here. The vocabulary of painting is my subject, concrete, straightforward, if not the one imposed by the language of forms squarely placed there, in balance under the eyes of the viewer. You may see a stage in the history of art called "geometric abstraction". But this roll of the dice is also more sensitive I think, more daring, like a confidence sent to the field and letting everyone see in their own eyes how a color vibrates, how a line emerges and a shape is composed, quite simply, but above all - and without detour - in the course of these few proposals organized as a series. Two colors declined in a range of tones going from the flame at the bottom of the volcano, boiling, fiery, of a burning luminosity, to finally pass to rusty red, old, tired, cooling and with a texture that seems to fall from the canvas like metal flakes exposed to the elements for too long. Michel Schwebel's art captivates us with its apparent ability to switch from hot to cold, as much in the emotions evoked as in the colors. Oils and acrylics are treated with just as much energy, retaining a subtlety like a respectful restraint in the face of an overwhelming ardor.
