Biography

Born in 1970 in Montpellier, Renaud Philippot is a French contemporary painter who lives and works in Brittany. Since his earliest age, he has developed an instinctive practice of painting, asserting that he has been painting daily since the age of five. His pictorial universe, immediately recognizable, is populated by characters with singular faces, expressive figures, and fantastic silhouettes that evolve in colorful, spontaneous, and deeply emotional compositions. At the border of singular art, free figuration, contemporary art brut, and expressionism, Renaud Philippot builds a work where imagination, intuition, and the freedom of gesture occupy an essential place.

Self-taught, the artist favors an instinctive approach to creation. He describes his process as a form of waking dream, in which each canvas is born without prior sketch or defined program. Guided by his emotions, his mood, and the music accompanying him in his studio, recurring characters with large faces gradually appear, becoming the signature of his work. This spontaneity gives his works a particular expressive force, where color, material, and drawing dialogue with great freedom.

Renaud Philippot's universe mixes figurative painting, naive art, singular art, and contemporary expression. His compositions, mainly made with acrylic and mixed media techniques, associate colored flat areas, affirmed graphic lines, and vibrant textures. The gazes, faces, and silhouettes become the vectors of universal emotions, oscillating between humor, tenderness, melancholy, and poetry. Refusing any search for realism, the artist favors a free pictorial writing where each work tells a story open to the viewer's interpretation.

Throughout his career, Renaud Philippot has exhibited his work in numerous art galleries and exhibitions dedicated to contemporary art in France. His works regularly appear in public sales and private collections, testifying to the growing interest in his pictorial universe. His production is distinguished by its coherence, creative energy, and ability to continuously renew his plastic vocabulary while maintaining an immediately identifiable visual identity.

Through generous and deeply personal painting, Renaud Philippot invites the viewer to enter a world where emotions take precedence over narration and where imagination remains the main driver of creation. His work occupies a singular place in the scene of French contemporary art today, seducing collectors and amateurs with its authenticity, spontaneity, and the expressive power of his characters. Between singular art, contemporary figuration, expressive painting, and intuitive creation, Renaud Philippot pursues a free artistic search, faithful to a conviction that has driven him since childhood: to paint as a vital necessity.
