Ivo Cerrai

Ivo Cerrai was born in Livorno in 1926. In fact, starting from a traditional genre painting, still under the late impressionistic stimuli of easy consumption, he moved on to a language of a neo-hyperrealist nature.

Cerrai's style is very peculiar in identifying a spirituality of nature, with an almost romantic feeling. In his subjects there is always a certain melancholy taste for the sense of the sublime that can only be felt in solitude. All this is also reaffirmed in his pictorial technique. 

Cerrai is a painter who starts from an impressionistic-inspired style, but his brushstroke, rather than registering the luminous vibrations, is inclined to soften the objects and softly blend them in the space in which they interact. This way the light falls more softly, creating a more poetic sense of the landscape.

Since 1950 he has participated in exhibitions and painting reviews in Italy and abroad obtaining important awards and recognitions. His pictorial works can be found in numerous Italian and foreign private and public collections.
