Biography

Renato Longanesi, born in Naples in 1931, his paintings are always interpreted with a delightful didactic realism, boats depicted in a historical context beginning from the 17th to the 19th century, naval battles or sailing ships with outstretched sails floating in stormy seas. His compositions are highly detailed and rich in detail, useful for piquing the viewer's curiosity.
The painter's style is almost an illustration style in which the composition is studied in such a way as to enhance the narrative development and, on a formal level, the entire structure rests on the drawing, in this way Longanesi, in the essentiality of his representation, manages to enhance the lyricism of a narrative, adventurous pictorial making, however there is no lack of pictorial quality, which the artist expresses with a quick application of colour, to give more immediacy and freshness to the representation.
His paintings are present in many art collections in Italy and around the world, a painter who had a great influence on 20th-century nautical painting.
