Biography
Janez Bogataj was born in 1961. He decided to become an artist at the age of 17, inspired by Vlastja Simoncic, first Slovak photographer-educator. The Junij group was displayed at the modern art gallery in Ljubljana in 1978. Between 1979 and 1988, he worked for the Mladina magazine and received the Golden Bird award in 1981 for his works.
His photos aren't only based on Slovenian landscapes, but he also makes self-portraits and does conceptual photography.
His work is a true historic testimony of a young Slovak’s life in the 70's. This might explain the reason why the bibliothèque nationale in Paris bought 40 of his photos and one of his works was even published in the bibliothèque nationale review.
