Biography
Ghassan Nana is a Syrian painter born in 1953 in Homs. He studied painting in his hometown and then at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Damascus.
His pieces express a present feeling whose roots come from the artist's immediate environement - cities, markets, encounters- but also from his emotions and thoughts. His artistic culture is nourrished by references as diverse as Picasso, Bosch, Millet, icons of Fayoum, Islamic and Asiatic art.
Thus, his creations escape the abstract/figurative division, and leave the beautiful part to interpretation. Ghassan Nana has participated in diverse group exhibitions in Syria, Russia, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Jordan, Qatar, France and Egypt. He has also been the object of solo exhibitions in Syria and more recently in Lebanon.
