Biography
Born 1984, Elizabeth Waggett is a British Artist and Designer currently residing in NY City.
Widely exhibited in the UK, USA and the UAE, her eminently modern and free spirited artworks focus on the confusion of today’s society, on its preconceived and arbitrary notions of value and on its obsession with valueless beauty. Using noble materials and time honored skills in a contemporary way, she brings a modern twist to fine art traditions and creates delicate and high quality images that invite us to reflect on war, religion, beauty or destruction.
By making hyperrealistic drawings of animals, human skulls or artifacts and by covering each of them with gold leaf and other precious metal, the artist elaborates symbolic juxtapositions and dichotomies that oppose primitive motifs to the human race greed. But despite the dominance of the man in this world, the artist’s contemporary vanities show us that our lives are as fragile as that of the animal. Free from any socio-cultural benchmark, her images also invite to a common introspection and prompt us to reconsider the invaluable richness of our planet’s resources.
