Ancho, 2009

Ancho is a young woman of the Hamer culture from the Omo Valley in southern Ethiopia. John says: "Of all the people I have met in the seven years of this project, Ancho is the person I hold dearest: we have met 3 times in 2006, 2009 and 2012. This picture was taken immediately after we were re-united in late 2009. Aside from an infectious smile, she wears traditional Hamar armlets made from copper, brass and iron, together with beaded earrings. The total weight of jewellery can be considerable when similar thick bracelets around the legs are taken into consideration." John Kenny’s work is all shot on location in some of the remotest corners of Africa. His images are all taken with natural light and his subjects in their day to day attire. C-type photograph with a UV-protective acrylic face mount and metal subframe. The piece is hung from the subframe and sits away from the wall. The standard acrylic has a gloss finish.
