Presentation

Carolyn Landale initially pursued a career as a designer. After gaining a BA (Hons) Industrial Design in Manchester in 1978, she worked in London, firstly for GMW Partnership and then BDP Architects before establishing Axis Design Europe, which grew into a successful niche design practice specialising in commercial interior design.

During her design career, Carolyn was involved with a range of prestigious interior refurbishments for a large number of commercial clients including projects for Shell, Canadian Bank of Credit and Commerce, P&O, Lister Hospital, Heathrow (Terminal One), Logica, Barclays, John Lewis, Tritec Music (Managers for Duran Duran) and many others.

From 1994-97, Carolyn Landale worked as a Sessional lecturer in Interior Architecture and Three Dimensional Design at University of Creative Arts in Kent while continuing to work as a designer, but also spending an ever greater part of her time working as a painter.

In 2007, Carolyn took the decision to dedicate herself to her painting on a full time basis. Her interest in the theories of space, its rhythms and its essence, which was a key factor in her career as a designer, continues to define the approach she has taken in her work as a painter.
