Biography

Rebecca George is a contemporary American painter born in Chicago, IL USA in 1972. Her use of materials includes drawing, painting, mixed media and printmaking. In recent years his oil paintings and ink and charcoal drawings have gone further in combining suggestive form and abstraction. In late 2016, George's oil paintings went further in constructing non-representational compositions, focusing heavily on material and method of application.

"Art is action", says George, "a balance between invention and discovery". Rebecca George emphasizes the importance of maintaining a detachment from the outcome so that paintings evolve independently of conditioning and expectations. The surfaces of George's paintings are highly polished with gestural compositions continually pushing into new territory. George moved to Michigan in 2019 where she works out of a barn studio in the deep woods.

Rebecca George is the Founder, CEO and Curator of The Art House Gallery, founded in 2011.

Education: Bachelor of Fine Arts, Maryland Institute, College of Art (1993), Master of Science in Business, Spertus Institute (2007), Master of Fine Art in Painting and Drawing, School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2011).
