Alceu Ribeiro

RIBEIRO, Alceu (Artigas, Uruguay, 1919 - Palma de Mallorca, 2013).  

Painter, sculptor and muralist representative of the Constructivist movement, Alceu Ribeiro was formed by Joaquin Torres-Garcia from 1939, thanks to a scholarship that allowed him to settle with his brother, also an artist, in Montevideo. He studied with the master for ten years until his death in 1949, and in his student days his work is already recognized with several awards from the National Hall of Montevideo, in 1940, 1941, 1942, 1943 and 1945. In 1949 he founded the workshop El Molino, who reconverted in downtown Montevideo intellectuality, and that same year he made his first commissioned mural for the Palace of Light of the Uruguayan capital.
