Biography
Starsky Brines is a Venezuelan artist born in 1977 in Maturín. He studied Fine Arts at the Instituto Universitario de Estudios Superiores de Artes Plásticas Armando Reverón in Caracas. Now based in Miami, Brines develops a bold visual language that merges figuration, abstraction, and symbolism, using painting and drawing to explore the human condition. His works are populated with hybrid characters that blend animal and human traits, referencing fairy tales, comics, childhood toys, and urban Latin American culture. Influenced by German Neo-Expressionism, the Italian Transavantgarde, and the COBRA group, Brines balances humor and social commentary with a theatrical aesthetic. Notable solo exhibitions include "VANISHING rendezvous with the animal" at Visu Contemporary (Miami Beach, 2023), "Outside of myself / Fuera de mí mismo" at Ferrara Showman Gallery (New Orleans, 2021), and "Paraíso Perdido" in Frankfurt (2018). He has participated in major art fairs like Volta New York, Art Karlsruhe, and UVNT Art Fair in Madrid. His work is held in collections in Caracas, Miami, Basel, Madrid, Bogotá, and Seoul, among others.
