Description
Created on commission for the Museum of Fine Arts of Dole for the 2025 Museum Night, this piece is a textile interpretation of one of the museum's signature works: by Jean-Denis Attiret.
Fabrica Minervae reimagines the painting through the technique of hand tufting, using exclusively natural wools, giving the portrait a rich tactile depth and a uniquely warm presence.
Part of the artwork was produced live in front of visitors during the event, offering an intimate moment between the artist, her craft, and the public. Later exhibited at the museum entrance throughout the summer of 2025, the piece welcomed thousands of visitors and asserted itself as a striking and memorable work.
This contemporary reinterpretation of a historical portrait comes with its museum label, attesting to its institutional exhibition.
Presentation
Fabrica Minervae is a textile artist whose work explores the material and symbolic heritage from antiquity to the present day. Inspired by art, archaeology, and ancient craftsmanship, she creates pieces that evoke fragments of lost objects, forgotten adornments, or imaginary artifacts. Her works, combining natural fibers, embroidery, and artisanal techniques, reinvent forms inherited from the Greco-Roman world while bringing a contemporary sensibility to them.
Through a meticulous and meditative practice, Fabrica Minervae questions our relationship to the past, transmission, and materiality. Her creations are part of a research process where memory, myth, and manual craftsmanship come together to give birth to poetic objects, steeped in history and meaning.
She regularly exhibits in museums and in artistic projects related to fictional archaeology, which she co-creates with the artist Rom av.JC.
