Hafizayya, l'homme e.es.t le pêcheur, Ribat de Monastir, 2024

Andy Berrend

The work in question is a bold and expressive representation adopting the Cubist style, characterized by a geometric deconstruction of facial elements. The angular and fragmented features of this portrait give an asymmetrical look that immediately captures attention. The subject, although distorted, reveals an emotional depth through his intense gaze and bright red lips that contrast with the rest of the composition. The background uses a palette of greens and blues, creating a vibrant atmosphere that brings out the earthy and warm colors of the central character. Bursts of yellow radiating from the head add an almost haloed dimension, evoking a certain aura or energy emanating from the subject. Each brushstroke and nuance seem meticulously chosen to illustrate a tension between abstraction and recognizable form. The artist thus masters the balance between chaos and harmony, reinforcing the visual impact with dynamic textures. This portrait transcends simple representation and invites the viewer to a meditation on identity and perception.
