Contours of Eternity | Modern Feminist Abstract Figurative Painting, 2025

Alina Razmakhnina

Razmakhnina is a contemporary artist whose work operates at the intersection of drawing and painting.

Her practice reinterprets visual motifs from historical European art—particularly the Pre-Raphaelites, as well as Baroque and Rococo painting—translating them into a contemporary, expressive language. Rather than quoting these traditions directly, Razmakhnina transforms familiar cultural images into lighter, more playful, and sometimes deliberately irreverent compositions.

She works with oil pastel, charcoal, and watercolor, intentionally using ready-made colors without blending them. This approach preserves immediacy, spontaneity, and a sense of aliveness—that defines her visual language. Color in her work is direct and tactile, while line remains fluid and graphic, creating a dynamic tension between structure and freedom.

Her compositions often balance elegance with subtle provocation. Classical figures and ornamental references are reimagined through a contemporary sensibility, where beauty becomes accessible, ironic, and emotionally open. The result is a body of work that feels both culturally informed and intuitively fresh.

Razmakhnina is interested in the moment when an image shifts from recognition to reinterpretation—when historical memory gives way to personal perception. She avoids fixed narratives, instead creating visual spaces where meaning remains open and viewers are invited to project their own associations.

Through a distinctive synthesis of historical reference and contemporary gesture, Razmakhnina creates works that celebrate visual pleasure, immediacy, and the ongoing transformation of cultural imagery.
