Description
A white line intertwines against a dark background. The medium accumulates. The gesture is rapid, instinctive. The drawing is constructed through the superposition of nervous lines.
The animal emerges from the graphic chaos. Its silhouette takes shape in a circular and dense movement. The pencil technique reveals a sharp contrast. The eye and the trunk become defined through a network of spontaneous hatching.
The approach oscillates between figuration and abstraction. The movement recalls the energy of dripping. Each loop adds relief to the pachyderm's wrinkled skin. The composition centers the subject to accentuate its presence.
This piece explores the raw power of the line. The monochrome rendering emphasizes the sobriety of the whole. The balance rests on the tension between the void of the support and the saturation of the tracing. The work concludes with a discreet signature in the bottom right.
Presentation
Born in Paris in 1972, Hom Nguyen is a self-taught artist known for his raw, expressive portraiture. His bold, gestural style captures human emotion with dynamic, instinctive strokes, blending abstraction and figuration. Inspired by Jackson Pollock and Lucian Freud, Nguyen explores identity, revealing the psychological layers behind social masks.
His large-scale portraits, often in monochrome, evoke the intensity of Yan Pei-Ming's work. Exhibited internationally, including in Paris and New York, his art is highly sought after by collectors. In 2024, Nguyen's latest series deepened his exploration of light, shadow, and emotional depth.
With growing recognition in contemporary figurative art, his upcoming projects include a solo exhibition focused on memory and resilience, reinforcing his influence in the global art scene.
