On Hansen   New & remarkable Artists

Rinzen, 2021 by On Hansen Oil stick, wax, acrylic, and organic handmade ink on different layers of handmade Washi paper. Image size: 98 cm. H x 65 cm. W Unframed.

This artwork presents a striking interplay of texture and form, dominated by bold, black brushstrokes atop a muted, earthy background. The artist employs dynamic strokes that evoke a sense of movement and raw energy, contrasting sharply with the textured, torn-paper aesthetic beneath. The use of ink or paint is aggressive yet controlled, suggesting both chaos and precision. The piece evokes a visceral reaction, compelling the viewer to contemplate the tumultuous movement and the layered history of the canvas itself. The abstract nature encourages multiple interpretations, challenging conventional perceptions. This work's uniqueness lies in its ability to blend abstract expressionism's emotive power with a tactile, almost tangible surface, inviting both visual and physical engagement. The juxtaposition of dark and light elements amplifies the intensity and depth of the piece, making it a compelling study in contrasts and textures.

On Hansen originally from Scandinavia is the pseudonym used by the photographer Cristian Hunter, a third-generation artist who has spent most of his professional career as a photographer. His work bears the traces of lived experiences, exploring the possibilities of formal abstraction, seeking an organic experience between space and time through painting and photography. "There is no longer a single idea explaining everything, but an infinite number of essences giving meaning to an infinite number of objects. The world comes to a stop, but also lights up." ― Albert Camus, The Myth of Sisyphus and Other Essays.
