Description
This artwork showcases a striking interplay of texture and decay. Dominating the composition is a crumpled and weathered material, possibly paper, bearing evidence of deterioration through rust-like stains and uneven tears. The vertical orientation enhances its resemblance to an ancient text or relic exposed to the ravages of time. Underneath, a deep black background contrasts sharply, accentuating the intricate details of the worn surface. The use of earthy tones like brown and ochre suggests an organic degradation, invoking a sense of historical significance and forgotten narratives. The piece captures the viewer's attention through its dramatic textures and the ambiguity of its form, inviting contemplation on themes of age, memory, and the passage of time. The artwork's tactile quality and evocative visual language make it a compelling exploration of impermanence and transformation.
Presentation
Born in Georgia, he studied Literature at the University of Tbilisi, Georgia. He holds a PhD in Humanities from the University of Warsaw, Poland. He has lived in Buenos Aires since 1995.
The Georgian-Argentine artist Gaios creates a very interesting post-production work using paper as raw material in the form of books, letters or documents. The universe of Literature is the substrate of his artistic work. He rewrites the pages like a medieval scribe using graphics, signs, symbols and ideograms from the universe of visual arts.
The convergence of these two worlds is the leitmotiv of his works. Both universes are syncretized by means of psychic automatism, the artist's drives and impulses, which allow us to visualize the central core of his works: chaos.
We present part of his works forming imaginary Fibonacci series whose numerical sequences were used by Da Vinci, Velázquez and many others. This golden ratio attempts to create new dream books that guide us, without intending to, towards the Borgesian labyrinth, from which we will not be able to escape, because it is infinite and will be our essential prison.
